CHEM 165

Along with spring quarter came my favorite class of the year. Chem 165 was a continuation of past classes, but was almost entirely new concepts that weren't seen in high school, and had quite a bit more organization than past classes. The content was quite engaging, and has made me excited for future science classes! At the end of the quarter, we were assigned an "Art in Science" project, and my project was inspired by the inorganic chemistry unit - which dove into different compounds and the range of colors they could appear as.

Wet Lab Work

Transitioning into a new quarter also gave me an opportunity to explore more hands-on experimental work in the laboratory compared to the more computational work I had been doing in lab. I've loved learning new techniques and procedures, and my interest in research has grown significantly. One of my favorite procedures is a BCA Assay, shown to the right, that compares standards and samples to determine the concentration of proteins - with a beautiful array of purples and greens!

Quarter Summary

Spring has definitely been my favorite quarter so far! Being used to a routine and the area has allowed for a lot more comfort, and the sunshine returning meant that I was able to go out and enjoy the area much more with friends. This quarter had also been my best in terms of time management, allowing me to create a really good work-rest balance, with lab work and time with friends factored in. Additionally, some friends and I created a study group for Physics 121, my hardest class this year, but I felt much more confident for tests and the final because of the extra support a group allowed for.
